Sony responded (somewhat positively) to Microsoft’s invitation to let Xbox And PlayStation gamers play together. Cross-platform multiplayer would be extremely awesome. Some games (like GTA V or Warframe) would be vastly improved if multiplayer was cross-platform.

Yeah, this a million times.
I've always wanted some sort of cross-platform playability, and I think some games could really benefit from it. Being able to play a few games with friends who own the opposing system would be cool for those who don't want to/have the ability to shell out money for both, too. Overall, I don't see how companies could lose on having cross-platform in their games. Now I don't know if this is easy or not for the devs to be able to program in, but if the systems are open and someone does it, that would be exciting.
