Tax - Weird tax laws - Jiggly - 10-28-2015

I was going to put this in world news but I guess it doesn't apply to the world.

One of the big news stories in the UK is taking the internet by storm (aka facebook via hormonal women) which is related to Tax. The whole thing is ridiculous. So, I doubt many of you know much about the recent arguments about the UKs 5% tax on sanitary products. I may well have scared you all off by mentioning the word "sanitary". Don't worry, I'm not going to talk about periods!

The ongoing argument in case you wanted to know more: Hilarious tax debate

There has been debate about why it classifies as a "luxury" product (and therefore taxable) rather than a necessity. This has lead to some interesting products coming to light which are not taxable.

Biscuit or cake?
According to UK law cake is a necessity. I may have to agree with this one.

Not even sure what to make of the nuts.

What do you think? Does your country have any weird products that are not VAT chargeable?

Overtaxation on tobacco products is something the US has. Because that's really going to make people quit.

Spoiler:
Not really.

That's not weird though, that's good because people will waste less of them, I get sick of seeing carrier bags all over the place cause people are too lazy to save them or put them in a bin.

I do agree with that statement. Also, a lot of companies are actually donating the proceeds to charity aren't they? Some shops have also now got much better bags too! Although, my cupboard under the stair is now worth a lot of money.
