I am pretty sure Greed's a fun, socializing young man that happens to have a lot of friends that are actually up to date with the news. I'm sure the plane crash would've come up into their conversations, but apparently it didn't because he, nor his friends, heard about it because his country didn't spend a few minutes to report about it. So this theory will lead to the next conclusion: it wasn't world wide news after all.
