Object focus through layer masks/filters - Inori - 08-30-2015 Focusing on a specific subject in a photoshop project can be extremely important. This concept can be used in a huge contrast of ways; from censorship to emphasis. Spoiler: Original![]() Spoiler: Finished Product![]() 1. Duplicate your layer duplicating your desired layer gives you another picture to work with, without messing with the original. ![]() right click layer > duplicate 2. Create your mask By creating your mask, you give yourself the ability to make parts of the masked layer visible/invisible via a greyscale brush (or gradient). ![]() layer > layer mask > [reveal all/hide all] 3. Add your filter Add your desired filter effect. ![]() ![]() 4. Brush whatever needs brushing I'm just fucking around here; colored toast, grey everything else ![]() note: the black in the layer mask is the part that goes through It's a simple skill, but a powerful one. This isn't something done exclusively in photoshop, either. It can be accomplished in most online editors (i.e., Pixlr), too.
