Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Chuck - 04-29-2013 ![]() Howdy folks!
Browsing through the introduction forum - and boy is there some good introductions! I noticed something rather odd... they all lacked one thing. I failed to learn anything I didn't already know. I felt there was a lack of 'bonding'. I have 'created' a guide, mostly aimed at new members' joining Chit 'n' Chat's community, but hey! Who knows, maybe you'll learn a thing or two also. Yeah, that's right, you. ![]() Yeah, your name, who would have guessed, eh? If possible, the reasoning behind your user-name is always a bonus. It helps us as a community understand the face behind the name. Including your age is also an option - we here at Chit 'n' Chat will never discriminate a person because of their age (we don't discriminate at all for that matter) - but not always a necessary. Enough of the basics. Begin to detail some of your interests / hobbies. I'm not saying you need to right a nine-page essay about how Soccer is your favorite sport, what I'm saying is, tell us some basic background information e.g. your favorite soccer team. You'll build on your interests and hobbies later on in your introduction. You never know, you might meet a member or two who share equal interests as you! ![]() Who would have guessed that people on the Internet like video games. Why not introduce the community to your gaming habits! What's your current games console? What's your favorite game? Do you ever go outside? These are all questions that if answered, help to build up an introduction thread... sorry "Hi I'm John! I like the Internet. I will stay active, bye!" just won't make the cut here. If you game online, you can also add your gamer-tag or PSN / Valve username; this is an early opportunity for other members' of the community to engage with yourself! ![]() You've stated some basic interests / hobbies - but now it's time to expand. Going into further detail: you're favorite sport may be soccer, you're favorite team might be Real Madrid. You'd think that'd be enough, right? Why not include your favorite player? Who's your soccer idol? This part of your introduction no-one can create. It's all about you. This will tell the community exactly who you are and will allow other users' who share the same interests as you to engage in conversation. ![]() The final part of the puzzle is to tell us about your past forum experience. Are you new to the Internet? Have you browsed forums before? Are you a wizard? Some basic questions that will tell members' if you may need any help - or if they should run and hide. Maybe you're a 'l33t hacker' - we won't judge. Not much to be said here, maybe include some of your favorite forums, including Chit 'n' Chat, of course. ![]() Piece that all together and you'll end up with something like this: Quote:Greetings forum, It's not a novel and it's not a five-word introduction. It's the perfect balance in-between. So. Isn't it about time you got writing that introduction? ![]() RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - OversouL - 04-29-2013 Great thread. Now we will be able to know new members more.
RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Wonders - 04-29-2013 Great thread, I love to see people putting effort in and that you have! RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Versace - 04-29-2013 Very nice guide to introductions! I believe my introduction thread wasn't so bad and members got to know me a little. RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Jessie Andrews - 04-29-2013 This form seems about right. RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Ruskin - 04-29-2013 Thanks, this is a good guide. I always wanted to write something more in my introduction. It is always so bland and boring, and the same thing. this is a good guide and I want to remake my introduction now so people can actually know something, as you said, that they already know. Your introduction is an seamless example of how introductions should be. RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Sunlight - 04-30-2013 Nice and ver HQ thread. this will help many people out. RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Munchlax - 05-01-2013 This is an extremely informative thread, Chuck, thanks for writing this. RE: Introducing yourself to Chit 'n' Chat. - Feat - 05-06-2013 Wow Chuck, you've come far on this site since the last time I was legitimately active.
