Quote:Carphone Warehouse customers are facing a nightmare as it emerged that the company have been the victims of a cyber-hack, that could well see millions of people’s details released.

The company admitted that they had been victims of a ‘sophisticated cyber-attack’ on Friday, with their IT systems of one of their UK branches breached, and the news will seriously worry the 2.4 million people who are thought to have been affected, with their names, addresses, bank details and date of birth all having been accessed.

Credit card data is also thought to have been accessed from around 90,000 people, but that is thought to be encrypted, and the company have moved to not only apologise to customers, but also reassure people that out of their extensive data, the ‘vast majority’ is held on different systems and has not been leaked.

Customers with accounts at OneStopPhoneShop.com e2save.com and mobiles.co.uk are also thought to have been affected by the hacking.

Sebastian James, chief executive of Dixons Carphone claimed:

We take the security of customer data extremely seriously, and we are very sorry that people have been affected by this attack on our systems.

We are, of course, informing anyone that may have been affected, and have put in place additional security measures.
