Sugars and Drinks - roger_smith - 07-29-2015 (07-29-2015, 01:47 AM)Khris Wrote: You can maintain both of them, you can do internet and have life, I do. drinking coke for caffeine.... cute. 12oz of coke has about 32mg of caffeine. 8oz of coffee has about 95mg. I drink 3-5 12oz servings of coffee a day. Talk to me about caffeine addition. You weren't addicted to the caffeine, it was the massive amounts of SUGAR you were drinking. One 12 oz serving of coke has about 33 GRAMS of sugar. I assume you were drinking 20oz bottles, so you were pushing 60 GRAMS of SUGAR per bottle, times 3 bottles, damn near 180 grams of sugar. Ouch. Trust me its the caffeine, I been drinking Coca'Cola ever since I was old enough to steal them from my dad. I get width draws within a day after not having Caffeine. and I used alternate sources of caffeine without sugar and it does get rid of the width draw. The only other thing that is addicting is the flavor. Water is just not flavorful like Coca'Cola. And to my understanding Coca'Cola does not have Sugar it has high fructose corn syrup. Now the Mexican Coca'Cola which is the best and actually healthier has actual real sugar in it. But to me if the flavor is not good then I will not drink it so that is why I only drink Coca'Cola and Crisp orange soda. I lost my taste for MTN Dew and Pepsi. That's why when you look at the nutrition label it says "Sugar" on it. You're talking about Cane Sugar in the mexican coke. Also, sugar is highly addictive. The caffeine levels in soda are very very low. If you want caffeine, drink coffee. Used to drink coffee exclusively, used soda to ween off it because it edged off the withdrawl from all my coffee love. Was almost as difficult for me as kicking tobacco is right now. High fructose corn syrup is not a sugar it is a sweetener used to replace sugar. Just like Splenda is a type of sweetener to replace sugar and HFCS. The only reason why the nutrition facts say Sugars is to make it more simple and understandable to people, if they labeled it as HFCS it could confused people, that is why when you read the ingredients it says High Fructose Corn Syrup and no where in the ingredients it says Sugar. Coffee is out right disgusting to me and the levels being "very very low" maybe be true compared to Coffee but it is still enough to counter the addiction to caffeine for me. Also massive amounts of Caffeine is not healthy either if a smaller amount fills my needs then I am going to take it. But of course this is the modern world nothing is healthy. Just like Splenda is a type of sweetener to replace sugar and HFCS. Wrong. Made from Corn Starch. Starch is energy stores of plants. In this case, corn. It's made up of glucose, a sugar. HFCS's main process is just converting a part of the glucose into Fructose, which is a fruit sugar. This sugar is what your tongue picks up as sweet directly. So while its a sweetener, it is surely nowhere close to splenda in how it works. Probably healthier too. & "replace sugar" made me giggle. Most foods that have "sugar added" use a Fructose based sweetener in the first place. Sugars aren't as black and white as I think you think they are. There's a whole lot more than one kind. Glucose, sucrose, and fructose are carbohydrates, or starch. These are broken down by amylase and carbohydrase in digestion to form sugars. I used to drink several energy drinks a day. I would often end up going through about 200mg or more of caffeine per day on a weak day, and on a day where I drank a lot, I would go through, well, a lot more than that. I ended up quitting drinking much caffeine at all (Cups of tea only, which don't have too much.) cold turkey and felt absolutely shit and really sick for a few days until I got used to it. Was always sweating and feeling cold and sickly. Was fucking bizarre. |
