is Tor paranoid? - Master - 07-20-2015

I get that Tor is very good at protecting your Anonymity, otherwise no-one would use it but I also believe it's paranoid. [Image: tor.jpg] Maximizing Tor Browser can allow websites to determine your monitor size, which can be used to track you! How on earth does this simple act of press this button [Image: Tu12_MaximizeButton.jpg] get me tracked!

I'm guessing that if it's full screen, then websites can see that two visits from tor exit nodes but with the same resolution/size could possibly be the same user. And therefore you're being tracked and can be the 'victim' of targeted ads.

No lol.

HTML5 canvas image extraction (as tor calls it) can be used to fingerprint your computer.

Scroll down a little bit to read about it.

Tor is paranoid if you're not worried about being tracked down and jailed/killed for what you're doing on Tor. Also known as a majority of people that use Tor, and certainly the supermajority of people that use Tor then talk about how they use Tor on a clearnet forum.

Tor does not efficiently protect your anonymity anymore. It add a layer but don't count on it to keep you out of jail.
Btw as w00t loosely stated, if you are using Tor. telling people you are on it cuts the layer of security in half or even a little more. Once you know someone uses tor it is actually quite easy to track them, In other words tor's main functionality relies on the fact no one knows you use it.

RE: is Tor paranoid? - w00t - 07-21-2015

Not exactly, it is no easier to track a person using Tor just because you know they're using it. And it is ridiculously hard to be tracked through Tor if you use it properly.

It's just that the type of person who is highly motivated to not get tracked is usually the type of person with a healthy respect for discretion, especially as it pertains to OPSEC, and not giving out any more information about your habits than is absolutely necessary.

Maybe you need to read up a bit more on the subject! lol

I don't need to, I've read nearly every research piece on Tor and it's security model. Knowing that you are using Tor doesn't help me figure out what you're doing on it.

Current ways to track people using Tor are:

1. Own the exit node the target happens to use, and also have access to the target's ISP for a timing attack
2. Own both the entry and exit node in the target's circuit
3. Exploit unsafe behaviour. Posting images, using the same username on the darknet as the clearnet, or, more famously, having your computer automatically log into an account on an IM client over Tor on startup.

None of these are made any easier by knowing that a person is using Tor.

Please stop trying to act knowledgeable, you are an unskilled retard and that's how it always will be.

Ok lol agree, but why would someone be trying to track someone using Tor if they didn't know they use it? haha
Plus the advice is literally in Tor's docs.
