Going OFF-Grid - Earth - 04-27-2015

I am going to be going off-grid soon what this means is I will be living with limited electricity from solar power, wind power and on bad days gasoline 800watt generator for backup.

You may be wondering why would I do this and my answer is I am tired of living by restrictions, I am tired of electric bills, water bills, heating bills and everything like that, I am tired of the government having control over my life. Now even though I can live perfectly fine without modern day conveniences I am still going to have them to an extent.

So my setup will be simple:

30FT Travel Trailer (camper)
800 Watts of Solar panels
200-300 Watt Wind turbine
Rain Collection Setup
250 Gallon Water tank + 2 55 Gallon Food Grade Barrels (Gravity Feed)
Out-door shower (Cold Water only)
Composting Toilet
Wood Stove Heating

I will have this setup on about an acre of land. This most likely means no internet unless I could get a line ran out but most likely that will not happen due to how deep in it would be.

I also will be focusing on making everything self-sustainable including chickens, plants, etc.

Good luck with this. You should post some pics of your setup.

Could take the time to boil water in a fire pit but it will take too much time.

Solar water heater

I'm not off grid, but I'm slowly practicing a homesteading lifestyle. It's fairly stressful at times, and can be quite hard. We've only been doing it for a few months, and I wouldn't change a thing so far. I have the chickens out grazing around. I still need to build them a coop. Probably won't get to a garden this year though Sad

One step at a time though. This house needs a lot of repair that we didn't know about until months later, so we're fixing that stuff first. That's part of homesteading though.

Another example, this is kinda what I was thinking
