Sex Offender Steals School Bus, Then Tries to Kidnap

CLEVELAND, UT- A paroled sex offender steals a school bus and tries to pick up children.



Police in Emery County say Patrick Fredericksen was working a landscaping job at a Cleveland city-owned property Monday.



According to coworkers, he went inside the building and walked out with a set of keys and a list of student names and locations.



Officials say the thirty-year old attempted to pick up at least one child before someone called police to report a suspicious man driving a school bus.



Officers spotted Fredericksen and took him into custody.



"He did stop at one residence and tried to pick up a young child. The father intercepted that and then he went on down the road, at which time he met another person and asked for another address. She was very suspicious about that so she called that in, gave a description and at that point and time we responded to that area to bring this to a conclusion," said. Lt. Gayle Jensen on the Emery County Sheriff's Office.



Once in jail, officers say Fredericksen broke a water pipe, flooding his cell and the booking area.



He faces charges of theft of a vehicle, attempted child kidnapping and damaging a jail.
