How did you get into hacking and what was your biggest hurdle? - Moarderp - 04-11-2015

Hey Forum,

I'm a newbie. Other than dabbling with Kali Linux I haven't done any form of hacking. I looking for your stories on how in got into hacking and what your biggest hurdle was.

I now have the time, and drive to get into hacking / security and would be so grateful for any shared resources posted within this thread.

The biggest hurdle you will face in the public hacking scene is the toxic, horrible community of toxic, horrible people. Everything else is cake compared to that.

I will admit I sometimes contribute to this, because I want to see it burn.

For me, it was about trying to find a target. It sounds simple, but its far more complicated than you think. You have to map out what you want, you have to know your target better than yourself, you have to make sure your target is a legitimate one, not too far fetched or nonexistent. Being a hacker is not about breaking down your barriers. You have to find what you want on the other side and make a path around the weaknesses of your barriers, and get out without anybody knowing so you can do it over and over again..

Hacking into computers was always natural for me. But I got serious after 2009, when the Iranian Government started arresting and torturing thousands of innocent people for protesting for their legitimate rights. For the first time, I saw that Hacking did have a use that could change this world for the better. Thats how I found my first target.

He is right. I have met a lot of horrible people everywhere. But sometimes, if you want to find friends, you have to wade through the dicks.

This is true.

I've made a few attempts to learn and it is really hard. Not just because of the stuff you're learning, it's because 95% of your time is spent trying to find someone that is actually willing to help.

Toxic because people will try and dox you/swat you/ruin your life over the smallest little thing(for example some twitter @) or because everyone is trying to prove themselves and cause unnecessary drama

Personally the hurdle for me was learning that everything comes with practice and hardwork, nothing really comes easy, and it's best to learn now, hack later as oppose to hack now and learn later

Buying a Guy Fawks mask and using Low Orbit Ion Cannon against McDonalds for not honoring a coupon for a free McFlurry does not make one a hacker. (true story)

The second part is so true, I always tell people, you're only as good as you can teach....

I've been In the hacking sector for a little over 11 years to date.

To be honest, I don't recall my biggest hurdle- as any computational task I take onboard, Is performed In a most positive manner.

I got into hacking as a side project as a friend of mine was learning web hacking and he was the kind of guy who would take down your site and tell you nicely, before uploading "HACKED" index.html pages. So I learnt how to prevent such stuff.

My biggest hurdle? I'm still a newbie when it comes to hacking, so maybe I'm still trying to jump over it.
