Do you guys trust password keychains? - Nyx - 04-10-2015 Hey guys! So I recently started looking into these password keychains that everyone is raving on about such as 1Password and such as I still use pen and paper to store all of my passwords and that is starting to get a little tedious, and I was looking to maybe switch over to one of these keychains or whatever you'd like to call them. I read online that a big reason that people don't like to use these is due to the fact if they get hacked there goes all of your passwords, but I was wondering what you guys though of them? Do you trust them? Do you use them? And if not how do you go about storing passwords (text document, pen and paper, memory, etc...) RE: Do you guys trust password keychains? - Eclipse - 04-10-2015 Personally, I generate a password and only write it down until I've forced myself to memorize it. After that, I throw away the paper. I'd love to be able to memorize long passwords but I have a horrid memory, I can only remember my email and Steam password by heart, the rest I have to pull out the paper which is an awful pain on a trip or something (and not to mention the fact that if I lose that paper on my trip someone gets practically all my accounts) RE: Do you guys trust password keychains? - Brynn - 04-10-2015 (04-10-2015, 12:05 PM)Eclipse Wrote: Personally, I generate a password and only write it down until I've forced myself to memorize it. Although it's not really hackers or viruses that I would worry about if I used a keyring, I would worry about someone who knows half a shit about computers and/or computer forensics swiping my laptop or phone and digging up all the saved passwords, that's just me though. EDIT: If you are going to use a keyring, I wouldn't use one that can come as an extension to your web browser. There are lots of Linux (i don't know what OS you're running, sorry) applications that seem to have good security like Seahorse (even though Seahorse is mostly used for SSH and PGP keys). RE: Do you guys trust password keychains? - Th3PonyWizard - 05-13-2015 I'm using Dashlane. It's decent. RE: Do you guys trust password keychains? - mothered - 05-14-2015 I have so many accounts (file hosting, websites, etc) and given It's good practice to not use the same password for every account, I documented all passwords neatly In one booklet. Passwords are too critical to be In the hands of third-party entities and devices. RE: Do you guys trust password keychains? - Losi - 05-14-2015 Using one password is fuckin retarded. I write my passwords down on an encrypted text file on an empty encrypted flash drive. RE: Do you guys trust password keychains? - Lysergide - 05-14-2015 I am using LastPass and I love it, even tho it only works while connected to the Internet. I just have my "master" password for it which is long and complicated, and that's the only one i have to remember. I like their way of doing things, once they saw an anomalous flow of data and warned every user about it, advising to change their password. When the Heartbleed bug exploded, they gave the users the possibility to automatically scan for passwords "at risk" and change them. tl,dr: I use LastPass and I love it. Just make sure your master password is strong and you will be fine. The last thing you need Is for the encryption algorithm or Flash Drive to become corrupted, or losing the Flash Drive altogether. I also physically write down my passwords on paper as well. I try to be careful, I haven't lost my flash drive yet! |
