While I'm suggestion a bunch of cool aspects from HC, why not get an IRC?
Or better, an embedded chat like twitch or some anime streaming sites?

We currently are having an unofficial teamspeak, which is run by... uhm... well I don't remember, but I don't think a new communication method is in the need atm. But maybe if @Oni wants to make this an on-site IRC then it would be more useful.

We migrate to new chat clients every time a user discovers a cool one, but we all end up moving back to Skype.

The Skype chat is the most popular, even though I prefer IRC.
