Need help diagnosing a car problem - phyrrus9 - 02-02-2015

Alright, so my clutch slave cylinder was squeaking at both the seal and the cup, so I replaced it. When I replaced it, I sat down in my car for a cigarette and bumped the pedal on accident. The pedal went to the floor and stayed there, I pulled it back up, and when I went back under the hood I noticed that since the piston wasnt on the fork cup, the slave had fallen apart and drained the reservoir and master cyl dry. So I took the slave off and cleaned it and put it back together (spring and inner piston installed, then put the boot back on and re-installed the push rod). Then installed it, bled it out (after refilling the reservoir). When I started the car, the clutch worked fine, but if I rev over 5000r/m, it loses all of its pressure and I lose the ability to shift unless I press the clutch 20-30 times. I solved the problem by adjusting the hard stops on the pedal so that the excess pressure could not be normally released from the lines (since obviously there is a leak or a bad master cyl).

Should I be replacing the clutch master? Will that solve my problem and allow me to reset the hard stops on the pedal to what they are supposed to be or is there another problem (like my slave needs to be replaced again)?

This sounds very familiar, I know what you are talking about but I just can't put my tongue on it. Perhaps after a while of thinking I may be able to figure out the problem.

Sounds like you definitely need to install a new master clutch, which should fix most of your issues.

Also, stop revving it, and stop smoking in your car Wink

If the master is leaking and the slave came apart, I'd probably look at just replacing both. If you have to pull the trans to put the slave in, you might as well do a clutch/pressure plate/flywheel while you have it out.

(If your car manufacturer has) a forum, I would check that, if anyone else had the problem.
I assume you already did that though, best of luck.

I would say you could have a leakage in either slave or the master cylinder, but don't take my word seriously ofcourse.
Either way, if you haven't figured it out yet, just take it to a mechanic.
Cheers, hope everything works out fine

I am a mechanic. I figured master but didnt want to replace it. Ended up rolling it about 20 times and going through the windshield in it last night. Anybody here want to lend me some cash for a new car?
