YouTube in Background (Android) - Oni - 12-31-2014 I decided to make this thread, because I'm sure I am not the only one that wants to play YouTube in the background on my phone. Lately, Google has been removing all of the applications that allow you to play videos in the background. Reason being, they want you to pay for a Music Key subscription. Given that they aren't the creators of the the media I listen to, I find this very annoying. My solution: Download FireTube (Premium) ![]() FireTube (Premium) is one of the few applications that managed to escape the wrath of Google. It makes sense, because I had to scour a bit to find it. Of course, I expect it will eventually be removed from the store. However, in the mean time, it works perfectly fine. Limitless music at the price of 2.99, without supporting Google further? Sign me up. If you're really stingy, you can even look for the APK - although I suggest you support the developers. RE: YouTube in Background (Android) - Glacier - 03-16-2015 Thanks for this, I always hated YouTube pausing when I exit out. YouTube's app always cut out anyway, you had to use 3rd party software to keep it going, Google are just twats wanting money :'( I'm glad I saw this <3 needed a way besides being a pirate. RE: YouTube in Background (Android) - Eclipse - 06-07-2015 So I've found a way of playing YouTube in the background. @Oni's method is nice but many people don't want to pay for another app for just one feature. I recently rooted my S3 GT-i9305, and flashed CyanogenMod-11. (Note that CyanogenMod is not required for this tutorial, but root access is.) After looking around for a bit, I stumbled upon Xposed Installer. Quote:Xposed is a framework for modules that can change the behavior of the system and apps without touching any APKs. That's great because it means that modules can work for different versions and even ROMs without any changes (as long as the original code was not changed too much). It's also easy to undo. As all changes are done in the memory, you just need to deactivate the module and reboot to get your original system back. There are many other advantages, but here is just one more: Multiple modules can do changes to the same part of the system or app. Install it from the link above instead of from Google Play, and once done, open it and grant it root access. It may ask you to install the framework. Just install it. Then search for 'Youtube Background Playback', or something along those lines. Click on the result, and it'll take ten seconds to install the module. After that, reboot and open the official YouTube app. Boom. Enjoy. I had Xposed. Oddly enough, I'd searched for that when I had it, and there were no results. I'd suggest this method, as Firetube has been a little buggy as of late. This deserves a thread. RE: YouTube in Background (Android) - Lain - 06-11-2015 Not being able to play YouTube in the background is the only reason I invested in Spotify (I now love their service and prefer it to YouTube D:). |
