Is this like a virtual currency in this forum? Does it even have monetary value? Does it even come with benefits for obtaining them? Seems to me its just a number in my profile section. Improve maybe?

You can sell them for real money, with 1,000 per $1-2 the current average rate. You can also buy some items from the shop, we're going to be adding more items shortly.
