Delphi is far from dead .their new owner ,embarcadero technologies, are investing heavy in this product .it is as fast to code in delphi as it is in vb.net also delphi has no dependencies that is it does not require .net framework or java virtual machine to run .it compiles HARD METAL WIN32 AND 64 EXECUTABLES!Smile
edit: yes tutorials and books on newer versions of Delphi are scarce that is a problem unfortunately Sad
edit2: anothor major advantage of delphi is you can code for apple mac from the same codebase and linux is planned for the next release which will make delphi compiler a write once run anywhere RAD.android and iOS are planned too which means youl be able run your progrms coded in delphi on a windows os on mobiles too.imagine your trojans not only infecting windows but linux, mac, ipads smartphones.too good to be true but it is.Delphi imo is about to make a big comeback!
