Google Ara Project
This project is being run by Google's Advanced Technology and Projects group, and is trying to get the mobile community to be more like computers. Which would be allowing users to Hot-Swap modules and switch them out with others. For example, taking out the WiFi module and swapping it for the Mobile Data module after leaving your hotspot area. This project seems very promising for the next generation of smart phones.
Smartphones are usually created by companies for a certain group of consumers. The Apple iPhones are for a different clique of the population than the Samsung Galaxy series. For this reason, companies find it hard to branch out and convince people to change their opinions based off of the reasoning that each phone has its advantages and disadvantages. Causing people to stick with their original choice for a project.
But, Google Inc. has decided to make a change in the way people use their mobile phones, now the customer gets to decide what they want their phone to do, and also get a sleek look in the process. Google is sending out its hardware for the ARA Project to developers like Motorola so that they can build devices and modules based off of their idea.
Developers are also working on giving the Google Ara a list of modules that everyone can customize and use as they wish to give them the phone that they desire. The complete first round of phones are expected to go on sale in January of 2015 for around 50$ (£30/AU$55)

It's a great idea it really is, but Google needs to realize that sometimes people like simplicity and for things to be done for them, which is what the phones are providing today.
