What software is on Kali that makes it such a great hacking OS. And, are any of these softwaes available for other distros of linux.

Kali is no more a hacking OS than any other OS. The only thing that makes it useful for hacking is that it ships with most of the tools you'd use.
You can install all those tools, and many more, on just about any OS you want.

I have not been able to see the tools in Kali due to my falshdrives not having enough space. Do you know what some of the software used is called.

Kali Linux is just another Linux distro, but has numerous pre-installed pen-testing tools. Thats it.

All the tools you see in Kali can be installed to just any Linux OS running on Debian base. Here is a the link to the tutorial of how to install them.
