16 Year old Millionaire. - laksick84 - 06-03-2014

First off I know this is old but I want to know your opinion on it and what you think about his app. Here is the link to the article about him: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16306742

Again I am terribly sorry if this has already been brought up before.

Not sure what you're really asking about.

My opinion about the kid; great, good for him.

My Opinion about the whole market place is that this is a great example of how luck is so important and gaining that initial traction. Work and quality != success.

My opinion on the tech; as he admits in the article it wasn't hard. The concept isn't new the algorithms already existed the functionality existed in other places.

Its great for him; I'm personally a little tired when news outlets keep pushing the boy-genius stuff any time someone < 18 does something involving tech. The great thing about the low barrier to the digital market is that it doesn't have a huge barrier of entry you can get into it early.

Sorry I should have been more clear, I wanted to know what everyone thought about his programming abilities and whether you thought it was a good accomplishment for him. I totally agree about what you said and I see what you did there Smile

Well to that in particular the programming abilities necessary from a normal standpoint would be fairly average. For a 16 year old I'd say its above average for the one reason he mentioned:

"It introduced me to the world of algorithms,"

The fact hes started researching more formal algorithms is a great sign and would make him above average compared to most 16 year old programmers who are often still learning the basics of any language.

Yo let's go rob his ass.

Spoiler:
JK.
On a serious note, I'd say good for him! A simple idea opened a gateway of new opportunities for him.
