What good book to start in learning OS? - gihooh - 05-28-2014

Hey guys, I need suggestions on what book to start learning about modern operating system(I don't know if Windows,Unix, etc. will make a difference). I'm trying to understand how OS works then try to understand how to bypass it. Thanks in advance!

Every OS is different with how it works (eg. GNU/Linux is very different compared to Windows). Try picking up a book that is to a specific OS.

First Try to use all OS as you have. Just try to customize it. With your experience of editing system files you will understand which OS is preferable. Now you can decide which OS do you wanna prefer. Then search for that OS Documentation from their Original site & From communities.
As an ethical hacking as profession you can Choose either Kali OR BackTrack.
Plse try to supply (HackCommunityCoins)credit if it is worthy
Thanks 4 the post.

To be specific, Windows will be my choice. I'm just starting on reading books that's why I have no idea what might be a good one to start. Also, I know having knowledge about earlier version of OS is good but (if not necessary) I don't want to start hacking on good old MS-DOS or Windows NT. So if possible please suggest a book(or set of books) for me where to start. Thanks a lot.

"Operating System Concepts" by Silberschatz-Gagne-Galvin is a good one to start with.

I forgot about one of my favorite sites that is really good about programming and what not. They get your "feet wet" in the topic and then it's your job to research even more.

tutorialspoint.com overall had good intro's to subjects. Hope this is somwehat useful to ya.
