RE: direct cable and cross-over cable - The Real Slim Shady - 02-25-2014 Historically, yes, connecting 2 devices of the same type required a cross over cable. However Auto-MDIX has been around for years and all modern networking devices will autodetect the required configuration and respond accordingly as far as i know, so a standard straight through cable will work as well.
