You should probably do your graphics on Adobe programs. Photoshop and Illustrator for creating the graphics and then flash for animation. If you want to go into 3D, I suggest Maya or Cinema 4D and you can animate with Cinema 4D in After Effects. You can get preset graphics from development kits or released game engines.

AxwellMix had it right, though instead of Cinema 4D I suggest just Maya and ZBrush. ZBrush is used in 3D design to create the amazing characters you see in games like Assassin's Creed and Batman Arhkam series, they are then rigged in Maya to produce the animations you see in games.

As for 2D animation, Illustrator and Photoshop are used in order to produce vector(Illustrator) and raster-based(Photoshop) images to be used in Adobe Flash to produce 2D animation.

Good luck! Smile
