Guide to making a PC feel faster - ErroraBorealis - 05-16-2013 This is more for people who fix computers to make others happy or for money...almost a SEing technique. 1. Turn up the mouse sensitivity if possible. It makes a difference. 2. Clean up the desktop a little bit, on older PCs it makes a difference and it looks better. You may want to ask about this beforehand. 3. Defrag. Obvious one. 4. Disk cleanup. Deletes a lot of temporary stuff. 5. Remove startup programs using MSCONFIG. Also may make startup less aggrovating. 6. Check and scan for viruses. They use up extra RAM and cpu. 7. Run a registry cleaner, just make sure you don't find one that acts like an infection and wants you to pay. I've heard CCleaner or whatever it is is good. RE: Guide to making a PC feel faster - Foulplay - 05-16-2013 Good guide. Definitely should see a difference if you do those steps. Amazingly the mouse makes the most difference. I realized that when I used a new mouse with a shitty laptop. I couldn't control it well though. RE: Guide to making a PC feel faster - McLovin - 05-17-2013 Most of that can be done with CCleaner, Defraggler, and what ever AV your using. Nice guide none the less. RE: Guide to making a PC feel faster - Nefarious - 05-17-2013 This is a pretty useful tutorial for those that don't do these things already. Thanks for sharing. RE: Guide to making a PC feel faster - Sapientia - 05-17-2013 This is a good tutorial, but what does Defragging do? It basically arranged all the fragments of data on your harddrive into blocks instead of it being scattered, making it easier to read. |
