Modifying Theme/Panels/etc for all users - The Real Slim Shady - 09-14-2013 I am running an Xubuntu install (XFCE Windowing system) with the goal of remastering it and offering to a small target audience. However, I would like to extensively edit the windowing system. for example, Xubuntu comes with an upper panel and a lower panel that acts more like a dock. i want to remove this second dock permanently so that when a new user is created, there is no dock. (ie is there a single config file i can delete, to make it disappear?) Same with the menu items. I can remove and edit them on a user by user base, but i havent had *much* luck with the system as a whole. I would like to create a new directory with some very specific applications (some are custom written, not from the repo) If any one has some suggestions on any of those requirements, id love to hear it. Ive been googling for hours trying to get the results i want to just some limited avail. Thanks. RE: Modifying Theme/Panels/etc for all users - Deque - 09-14-2013 In general if you want to modify the default of a new user you will have to edit the files in /etc/skel/ I would probably just create a new user, modify everything the way it should be and then copy the dotfiles into the path mentioned above. Afterwards every new user should have the settings. The xfce panel settings should be in /home/username/.config/xfce4/panel I am not sure if it works with these folders, but I would give it a try. RE: Modifying Theme/Panels/etc for all users - The Real Slim Shady - 09-14-2013 see thats what ive been unable to find... /etc/skel/! and ya i knew where the config files were for each user but i assumed there was a master config file somewhere i couldnt find that was created for every user. that said, /etc/skel was the missing link. I can modify the settings as a user and that should replicate to all new users. Including the initial user when the remastered dvd is run/installed i gather (hope) you're awesome Deque. you never fail haha |
