Certification Route for Pen-testing - necrojones - 08-19-2013

I'm looking to finally enter the Pen-testing industry and I am wondering which Certifications are the best to get so that companies take a closer look at your resume?

I've heard the CISSP is too vague of a cert (although some people swear by it), and I"m unsure about CEH or anything Mile2 is offering.

Any and all input would be helpful.

Get a CEH. Version 8 is the newest one right now. Try going with offensive sec. Their testing is more...realistic haha

When you say finally enter the pen testing industry, does that mean you have relevant prior experience?

my observation of professional pen-testers is they are well educated and experienced in computer & network systems, business, etc. You generally dont move from "hacker" tp "pentester" just because you want to. Or at least you wont be taken too seriously by large organisations. Pen-testing isnt just about finding an exploit in a system. it needs to be very, very comprehensive.

but thats just going by the people i know that work in the field... im currently working on my own degree, with a major focused on networking and security.
