ARP Poisoning And MITM Attack via Cain [Windows] - Boomslang - 06-26-2013

Hello HC!
I'm going to demonstrate you how to make MITM attacks & Arp Poisoning in Windows via Cain & Abel.
Download Cain & Abel from here.

Note-1: Windows firewall must be off while using Cain & Abel.
Note-2: This attack only works if the victim is on the same local network with you.

Logic of the Arp Poisoning and MITM Attacks:
In Arp Poisoning attack, attacker takes ip and mac addresses something like 10.0.0.4 and acts like a gateway. Then starts to send fake Arp packets on local area network. The victim thinks that the attacker is a gateway and responds to him.
So attacker gains the internet traffic of local network and becomes the Man In The Middle. He can steal any information he want from that data stream now.

Lets start..

First, open the Cain and start sniffing (Be sure that the firewall is off) then click onto Sniffer section.

Then right click on the white area and select the "Scan MAC Addresses".

Select "All hosts in subnet" then click OK.
Something like this has to be appeared.

Now go to APR section below the screen, click onto upper table and click to blue plus icon to add to list.

Select your IP address on the left side; Then select victim's IP address on the right side (Victim's IP address will appear when you click on your IP).

At the last, click to the icon where next to the sniffer icon to start ARP Poisoning.

Then left the rest to Cain..

Back to your question, I think its because that MITM attack slows down internet connection and the victim is not able to open a website because of timeout. But I'm not a network guy so you better go research for it Biggrin

I think it shouldn't be the first choice all the time you better know your local ip address (mine was 192.168.1.100 in this case).
