Racist picture, I want your aspect of it. - siffyh - 04-25-2013
Lately, there's been a 'racist' picture flying around my high school. Now, the reason why I'm making this question thread is because I believe there are two ways to see this picture.

For those of you, who does not speak Swedish, here's the translation:
Sign says: "Terrorist school"
The man says: "Now look carefully, I'm only showing you this once!"
And so we come back to my question, is this racist? The two ways of seeing this picture, in my opinion is:
1. People thinks this is racist because the characters in the comic are obviously from a Islamic country, and it's racist because it targets that one group of people.
2. This is a picture meant to be a joke, against the people who are actually terrorists, and it's a way of making fun of them.
That's just my opinion, but I want yours too! Please describe why/why not you think it's racist

I have no idea, as I said, the picture has been sent around my high school, and the principal has taken the school laptops of everyone possessing this picture.

This is not racist because Islam is not a race. It is a religion.

I don't see anything wrong in the image. Sure, it makes fun of a minority group in your country, but this is what you get for the right of freedom of speech. You can't go ahead calling "freedom" and then expect people to behave exactly as you wish. Everything comes at a cost. The majority of countries refuse to see this though.

Great reply, and I agree with you at 100%. People see 'Freedom of speech' as something they can use to say anything, not expecting to get consequenses, and when these consequenses come, they aren't expecting it, and in southern Sweden, (where I live) there is a large number of arabic immigrants, and when things like these come out, they tend to use violence on the source, just making people do more of these "stereotyphical" images/posts, not helping to reduce the amount of hate and racism.
