Pentest Standard - darkv0id - 12-13-2012 As a penetration tester, I find it important to follow the standards. http://pentest-standard.org/index.php/Main_Page If anyone has questions about this or penetration testing feel free to pm me. RE: Pentest Standard - The Real Slim Shady - 12-13-2012 Well, Just gave it a quick glance, and im pleasantly surprised at its thoroughness. too often sites/articles/even books are so focused on the actual pentest and methods of hacking... failing to cover topics like pre-engagement, post-engagement, and reporting. And for anyone interested in getting into that business needs to know these are a crucial aspects of this business. Its not the fun part, but its expected by your clients. Theres a lot more to pentesting than just hacking. And this site seems to cover it. I dont know however if these guys are a recognized standard. Looks more like they are attempting to create the standard at this point in time. But its definitely thorough enough. RE: Pentest Standard - darkv0id - 12-13-2012 It is extremely standard. It is an attempt to create a pentest standard. I follow it along with my colleagues in an attempt to legitimize it. RE: Pentest Standard - The Real Slim Shady - 12-13-2012 Im still reading through the information on this site. regardless of whether it is an officially recognized standard, it is remarkably thorough. It even expands on the content i studied in college on pentesting. Ill certainly be bookmarking this for future reference. RE: Pentest Standard - darkv0id - 12-13-2012 Glad you enjoyed it so much. It is extremely detailed and clean, and I try to follow it to the tee. It is a wonderful reference and I am glad to hear that you bookmarked it. RE: Pentest Standard - yashpalaegis - 01-04-2013 Currently i am reading the all through the information. I regards to it is an officially recognized standard. It is expands on the content and i studied in class. RE: Pentest Standard - Xe.4 - 01-04-2013 I have some question: What is Pentesting? Who use it? What for? Can I do it with Windows? RE: Pentest Standard - LightX - 01-04-2013 (01-04-2013, 05:33 PM)Xe.4 Wrote: I have some question: Penetration testing (Hacking) Hackers use it :p You can do it with any OS. It is just ethical hacking. For example, someone will pay you to try to hack into their server so that they can find how secure it is, and then fix those vulnerabilities. RE: Pentest Standard - DaPaus - 01-04-2013 (01-04-2013, 05:33 PM)Xe.4 Wrote: I have some question: To give an answer, Pentesting is short for Penetration Testing. This is the act of breaking in to computers to TEST the security without malicious intenstion. A penetration tester is a person who tests the security of computer systems for a living. So they get paid for hacking into computers. You can do it with windows altough some tools are exclusive for linux. I would reccomend Backtrack because this comes with pre installed tools. To describe Penetration Testing the best is actually. Hacking a sytem in diffrent ways, write a revision of what you did and fix the problem before some bad guy uses it to do bad things. RE: Pentest Standard - Xe.4 - 01-05-2013 Thanks. I got it. |
