More car issues because cars suck - roger_smith - 09-29-2014

Some of you may recall my previous thread about blowing a brake line. I eventually fixed that so yay.

Now I'm having issues with a brake seizing up. This isn't a new thing, it's been a problem for a while. However, because I'm moving to a new home in the country (and thus a longer drive to work) I've decided I should probably address the brake issue. Also, it got so hot it started smoking the other day so.... time to fix.

While working on this I found that the work I paid a shop to do a year ago is already failing and needs to be redone. I paid to have a tie rod end done because I didn't have the time. Whelp, here we are a year later and the replacement part is alllllll loosey goosey. Normally, I'd probably just let it ride, but since if a tie rod end breaks, you lose ALL STEERING CONTROL, I figure that ones worth doing. If it was just a little loose I'd let it be, but this thing is LOOSE.

Le sigh... It's always something, right?

Off to the parts store!

New car is on the short list once we get moved and get all the house stuff squared away. this is all literally just a stop-gap to keep this poor tired thing running down the road a bit longer

whelp jobs pretty much done. I still need to do an alignment after the tie rod end, but it's close enough for now. The brake caliper wasn't as gnarly inside as I expected so now I'm starting to wonder if there's something going on further into the system. Will have to monitor for now and see what happens...
