Time Travel: Future or Past? - Oni - 08-09-2014
So, if you were able to time travel, but could only travel once (and stay there), would you travel into the future or the past? Why?
Personally, I'd travel to the past. Being able to know the future ahead of time could be profitable. You could manipulate the stock exchange, cheat at the lottery, and make mass fortunes. Of course, you'd be missing out on possible opportunities travelling to the future might hold (such as improvements to technology).

If you travel to the future, you'd be behind on everything, ie. How most old people are behind on today's technology. For me, just that thought is degrading. On the other hand, travelling to the past would be profitable, like you said, but you wouldn't have the tech you have today. It's pretty much a dilemma.

I'd also go into the past, not really for the profits and benefits (which would be a good side effect), but it's essentially giving your life one big "reset" button.

if i where to go to the past there will be no technology and if i go to the Future there will be technology and some new ones but if i where to plan to go to the past i will learn a bit more about technolgy and bring it to the past but then again that can disturb the future from the past causing chaos or something. but then again if i can bring something from the present to the past it will be a weapon so i can be a leader of a group or something. if i where to go to the future i would go so far into the future where they have a time machine aka TARDIS aka Time and Relative Dimension in Space i would use to bring back stuff from the future to the past HINT anime series and so on. so i will chose the future

I'd travel back to the past simply to see what it was like to live back then.

Even if the stay was permanent? I don't think I'd be able to handle the culture shock past before I was born.

I'd probably only travel to 10-20 years ago. Wouldn't go further than that.

Actually, more specific to what you're asking: if you travel back to the past while you're still alive, are we assuming that you go back into your own body, or you stay in your body and there's two of "you" walking around?
