Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - Mom - 07-16-2014 So here's the question: I play Monster Hunter. A lot. The deal about the game is that, while putting heavy emphasis on multi-player ( All co-operative ), it's still a pretty primarily single-player game if you play on the 3DS. So last night I went on the Neoseeker/GameFAQs forums because I needed some material maps and a gunlance progress line and came across a few threads of people who wanted to cheat the game ( Which isn't really possible last I heard because no homebrew is made yet for the 3DS, correct me if I'm wrong ), and the replies that were given were... Startling to say the least, going from condescending to flat-out insulting and 'rage-y'. So my question is if this behavior is something you see yourself doing in response to someone cheating in a primarily single-player game. Do you find it unacceptable that someone cheats in any way at all or am I right in thinking that's just faggot-kiddie mentality? Yes, I am slightly irked by this. I personally don't cheat pretty much ever. I like to kill things without abusing lines of code, but I also believe that as long as it's single-player it's your experience. Your game. You're not ruining anyone else's experience, and if you are ruining something it's most likely just going to hurt you, so it makes the single-player cheat hate completely asinine. Anyhoo, before I start ranting further, opinions? RE: Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - Jolly - 07-16-2014 Different people have different ways of having fun. Some people appreciate a tough challenge more, others will find themselves dissatisfied with the game mechanics or a particular class/race, so they want to give themselves an edge. There are also people who just like to rip their opponents into shreds depending on the game. (Like me) Speaking of myself, I've been playing Skyrim A LOT recently and I've added in loads of Mods, some of them are overpowered skills that just look awesome, some take the lore and bury it deep deep into the ground but are hilarious and awesome anyway. Some of them increase the overall gameplay of mages, like Magicka reduction, added spells and Non-Stamina based running. Games are there for your enjoyment and your enjoyment only. A game that isn't fun for you isn't worth playing, so I think people are free to use cheats or mods as much as they wan't as long as they're satisfied and can get their share of fun. RE: Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - Erza Scarlet - 07-16-2014 The reasons people play games is for enjoyment, that being said cheating the game in a way that it disrupts that or gains advantage with other players then no. But if it's only single-player, with no advantages over someone and it doesn't disrupt the enjoyment of others., then more power to you. This came to mind, haha. Considering the fact there's always someone who opposes it and goes on some rage-boner fueled fervor about cheating I was pretty much gauging if SL had anyone like that, which would have been pretty terrible. The thing that makes it all the more surprising is that this is Neoseeker. A shitty forum, yes, but a shitty forum that prides itself in their cheats. So people who bash cheats go to a forum where cheats is one of its focal points? I'm just trying to understand the logic, but I'm glad we're of the same opinion, the both of you. RE: Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - Eclipse - 07-16-2014 Do whatever the fuck you want. At the end of the day, it's your game, your experience. If you prefer a challenge, don't, but if you prefer winning, do. P.S. I prefer to call it 'tactical restructuring' of the game, not cheating.
RE: Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - MiS - 07-17-2014 I used to have the mentality that "if you cheat, you're cheating yourself out of the game experience". However, I've noticed throughout the years that people really do enjoy the game better in different ways, whether that's playing it vanilla, using a walkthrough, hacking the game or anything like that - and that's what video gaming is all about, the player's enjoyment. Now when it comes to single-player games, I say do whatever you'd like, since it's your own personal and customizable gaming experience. When it comes to online or multiplayer gaming, I stand firm with @Erza Scarlet on that point: do what you want on your own terms, but don't ruin the gaming experience for others. RE: Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - Asura - 07-17-2014 To me, cheating in a single player game just gets boring after awhile. It's their game so there shouldn't be a problem. RE: Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - KrisKrox - 07-17-2014 I personally don't cheat in a game until I beat the game. It's my game so I could honestly do whatever I want with it. It's not like playing Call of Duty online and cheating to beat other players...that's completely different. RE: Opinion on Cheating [Singleplayer] - Satan - 07-17-2014 I cheat whenever possible. If something gives me an edge when playing against other players or against computers, you bet your rear end I'll use it. |
