Jolla - The new nokia - cr33pyguy - 04-30-2014

So there is this new mobile smartphone company called Jolla

It started after Nokia was sold off, with the "left-over" Nokia employees. Now they've gotten to shipping phones, (unfortunately EU, Switzerland and Norway only) with their own Unix-like OS (Sailfish OS). The OS supports both native and android applications, which I think is a great idea of them. I have heard that the OS is based off of a discontinued Nokia project.

Here's a picture that's also on the wikipedia article on the company:

This actually doesn't /look/ like too bad of a phone.

But I could be horribly horribly wrong.

I know they offer it with contracts in Finland. I haven't gotten my hands on one, but I plan on trying that.

It's 399€ per phone, which doesn't seem too bad.

So according to what I just read the android apps might have some lag, the hardware is slightly behind, though the design and interface is quite good (if a little hard to get used to)

Here you can find the full review.

I love the design, but it's a bit steep price-wise. I'll stick with my N5. I did hear about a sailfish port though, so maybe I'll try it out and let y'all know Biggrin

I actually want to buy this, it looks nice.

I know, the design is original, finally something that apple won't be suing over rounded edges or some shit. I'm thinking of getting it with my next contract, we'll see how that goes.
Please do tell us if you get that porting done.

Yeah, I think it would be worth it waiting for the android apps to be a bit more stable first.

Also what I though was cool, was that the back-side case can be switched, and it has ports, so that the case can actually have integrated hardware of some sort.

The government of which country though?

Everything starting with hardware is made in Finland so I'm not sure that's a huge problem.
