Use of WiFi for anonymity - xornull - 04-18-2014

I was curious on this today so I'd like to talk about it,
Are WiFi's really the best method for anonymity?

you can change the MAC address, sure, and you can be on a WPA/WPA2 to prevent eavesdropping, plus there are no logs there, even if there were special logs on the router
(rare unless they have a 1337 router) it would only end up determining if the actual owner of the network were a suspect or not.

I've read about some guy who was caught hacking into his neighbors WiFi, the police installed
a packet sniffer on the victim's router, and the fool logged into his own E-Mail account through the WiFi, which contained his private information, a jackpot for the police which led to his arrest.

Precautions about your uplink should be lowest priority, with usage patterns and software-level security being higher.
