Python vs Perl - Alan Turing - 04-17-2014

Why Python?
Why Perl?

I want to see SL's opinions on the two, and why one is better than the other.

Python, because it's easy to read, easy to learn, and is multi-platform. Python has built-in libraries for for everything, and networking in python is really easy to use.

Perl is lower level, so you can do more, and is widely supported under 1 standard.

Python has multiple standards, less fine control over whats happening, and is slightly less widely supported. It is, however generally faster to program

I've been looking at Perl and it looks a lot nicer than Python

Explain how Perl is 'lower level'?

Code:
BEFOREHAND: close door, each window & exit; wait until time. open spellbook, study, read (scan, select, tell us); write it, print the hex while each watches, reverse its length, write again; kill spiders, pop them, chop, split, kill them. unlink arms, shift, wait & listen (listening, wait), sort the flock (then, warn the "goats" & kill the "sheep"); kill them, dump qualms, shift moralities, values aside, each one; die sheep! die to reverse the system you accept (reject, respect); next step, kill the next sacrifice, each sacrifice, wait, redo ritual until "all the spirits are pleased"; do it ("as they say"). do it(*everyone***must***participate***in***forbidden**s*e*x*). return last victim; package body; exit crypt (time, times & "half a time") & close it, select (quickly) & warn your next victim; AFTERWARDS: tell nobody. wait, wait until time; wait until next year, next decade; sleep, sleep, die yourself, die at last

Perl is much more flexible. If you're starting out, Python because it reinforces good programming habits.

Python, focuses on readability, faster/easier to work with, and I've never really seen a website that supports perl.

>...I've never...
>Doesn't mean there isn't one.
