Anime Review of 'Air Gear' - Nyx - 03-27-2014 Welcome to my second review. Today I will be reviewing the Anime Air Gear. It is currently finished airing with a total of 25 episodes. As with any review, this is made up of solely my opinions, and does not reflect what you may think of this anime. Now let's get right to this review. Synopsis "Minami Itsuki never thought about seriously riding Air Treck motorized roller blades, until he got his butt handed to him by a street gang of Storm Riders. That day, he discovered in a locked up room, a pair of AT's and a box of stickers belonging to the Sleeping Forest street gang. One thing leads to another, and Ikki dons the wheels and begins to ride. As his reputation builds in the AT street fighting/racing world, he begins to develop his own gang and participate in more fights, gaining more and more territory." Source: http://myanimelist.net/anime/857/Air_Gear Plot The plot to this show is pretty average. I haven't really seen any other Anime that has used a plot exactly like this, so it has some originality to it, but it does feel like a lot of different gang anime that they have out there, so the originality to its plot isn't complete. One of the great things about the plot to this show that it stays serious the entire time, and doesn't go completely off topic and do something that is entirely irrelevent to the plot. I give the plot to Air Gear a 8.5/10. I took away a point because of it not having total originality (then again what anime really does?) and I took away half a point because there are a few minor plot holes in it. Overall it stayed exciting though, so it didn't bore me to death while I watched it. Characters The characters in this show were fairly entertaining. Some of them were there purely for comedic value, and they did their job perfectly. The characters that were there for the comedic part stayed comedic, and they didn't make extremely dull jokes, but instead they actually amused me which a lot of comedic characters in other anime do. As for the other characters, they did their job well. Most of the other characters were funny, but had the times where they were 100% serious about what they were doing. Most of the characters in Air Gear were interesting and actuaslly had some decent character developement, but some of the characters stayed idiots throughout the entire series, and didn't really change all that much. Overall, I give the characters an 8/10. They did a good job on their characters, but there were more than a hand full of characters that didn't amuse me, or weren't all that well done. Action The action in Air Gear was a bit different. it is hard to explain the action scenes if you're explaining it to someone who really hasn't seen the show, so I won't try to describe. All I really can say though is that most of the action scenes really got me excited, but there were a couple that I wasn't amazed or excited about and really couldn't care what happened in them. As a final mark though, I give Air Gear 7/10. They tried really hard with their action scenes, and some of them were good, but there were quite a few that just really didn't live up to some of the other action scenes. Audio The audio in this is fairly decent. The genre of music used in Air Gear really isn't my style, but some of the songs in it did find their way onto my phone. The music in this isn't really something to get super excited about, but when they did play certain songs, I did get fairly pumped up. As for the voices, I watched the subbed version of Air Gear, so I won't do a rating of the dubbed version of this ( if there even is one, which I don't think there is one) but the voices in the subbed version were fairly decent. They weren't as good as some other anime i've watched, but they did a decent job. Overall, I give them a 7.5/10. The music wasn't all that great except for a few songs that I really did enjoy, so they lost quite a few marks for unimpressive music, but the voices in Air Gear saved them because they were half decent. Animation The animation in this was pretty good. When watching the show I didn't find myself getting bored of what I was watching, and I was liking the style they used for this. The style wasn't really ripped from anything else so that is a bonus. The character designs were original and weren't stolen from anything (still looking at you Fairy Tail) and they were pretty decent looking, and they added some nice fan service but didn't go overboard with it which in my books is great. Air Gear gets 8.5/10 for it's animation. It was really nice and wasn't all that hard on the eyes, but I did take away some points because at times I was annoyed about how some things were animated, such as Ikki's bird. Final Thoughts In final, I give Air Gear a total mark of 8/10. This anime was really enjoyable even if it did finish on a cliff hanger which is always annoying. There were a couple drawbacks so it didn't get a insanely good score but I still enjoyed it while I watched it. Hopefully you enjoyed this review and hopefully you enjoy Air Gear if you watch it! RE: Review of 'Air Gear' - Cubesnail - 03-27-2014 I hated that there was no closing to the anime though. I mean, sure he does the thing, but at the end, there's still a lot to be resolved. Yeah, but I didn't take any marks off because of that as there is the Manga which is completely finished and has a very well done ending to it. |
