IP Log History - ParaZite - 03-25-2014

So the IP Log History is a MyBB plugin released by Jesse Labrocca and it basically allows users to see in their UserCP the last IP addresses used that were logged into their accounts. This information is private and can only be seen by the individual and the forum administrator.

I think this would be a good plugin to add for security. If a user here thinks their account has been compromised it can easily be proven. Administrators also have an extra panel in the ACP for easy access to last IP logins on any account.

This is a premium plugin. Admin, if you don't have it I can provide it. Tell me what you think and put all your opinions down below!

I don't see why not. Would be useful to see if your account had been breached but kind of useless excluding that.

Certainly, only problem would be is if I were to like for example, log into your account I could see your IP in the UserCP by default since the plugin provides that.

There won't be many times this plugin will be much use for the members as I'm sure not a mass number of accounts will be compromised often. But it is good for the administrators to search for IP's, and they have a number of other tools to use.

Thanks for feedback Smile

Yes, feds love these plugins. Makes there job a whole lot easier.

Why not just allow for two factor authentication? Example: email confirmation if logging in from a different ip range.

How would this make an LEA's job any easier?

Not 100% sure but I'm 95% sure that all our IP's are saved on the network server anyways.

Problem with your idea is that it isn't too difficult to get someones email address. It isn't about securing the account in any way, it's to allow users to see what IP's have been used to log into their accounts so if they suspect their account has been used without authorized permission they can easily check. It's also a good tool for administrators to use in the ACP for easier searches.

I don't hink this is a good idea. If my account was to be compromised, there would be logs in the AdminCP about the matter, and could be proven by that. I don't believe the user him-/herself would need to be able to prove it personally, but with help from the forum staff.

OT: I agree with Cressi. We don't need this.
