How do you deal with unhappy people? - pandandesign - 01-13-2014 I have worked in a place that there are some people are just unhappy about everything. It's like no matter how well I serve them, they are just not happy about it. I often ignore them by not talking to them because that will give them a break. However, I sometimes would just ask what's going on and sometimes they tell me about it. I do understand that people just have a bad day or something. How do you deal with unhappy people? RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - BeastlyHobos - 01-13-2014 Well I work in a grocery store and some days (like today) I was unhappy. All my coworkers were trying to cheer me up and it helped a little, but I hate working in te grocery business everyone is rude and customers are just stupid. I deal with them by not dealing with them. Im not a cashier yet so I can't tell you how to deal with them in like a face to face situation but I try to be kind and nice in my job. ( carts, bagging, helping, cleaning aka slave labor) anyways I suggest just being nice, if they are just rude then in the most respectful way try to get away from them, or just send them away RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - Kaylah - 01-13-2014 If they are strangers, I don't do anything because I suspect they would think it was none of my business. If they were people I knew, I would try to cheer them up the best I could. RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - htr693 - 01-13-2014 Perhaps it would help you to remember that everyone has a history that you don't know about, and everyone could tell you something you don't know. Sometimes a person could be dealing with some really difficult things. It's not your place to 'cheer people up' necessarily, but simply to let them know that you're around if they need anything. Happiness spreads, and if your concern is genuine, it will show. There is nothing worse (I'm sure you'll all agree!) than being really upset or in a bad mood about something you do not wish to discuss, and then having 5 coworkers all trying to 'cheer you up'. It can be quite isolating. RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - LindaKay - 01-13-2014 Ugh, I used to deal with some of the crappiest attitudes when I waited tables and when I worked at the convenience store. I don't know how to tell you to deal with them because I never figured it out myself. Just know that I definitely feel your pain.
RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - Lone Wanderer_HF - 01-13-2014 I know its not that simple but, make them happy? RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - Kureo - 01-13-2014 That depends on what kind of "unhappy" they are. If its something that will go over a few days, then I try to help them not do any major choices based on those feelings for the time it lasts. However if its something that is lasting over years, I would normally try to get to the bottom of what ruins their happiness. And while I do that, I try my very best to keep them as happy as I can, through doing things they like, listening to them, comforting them and helping them. I, myself haven't been "happy" for about 8 years. I know how happiness and sadness feels, I've come to the conclusion that I don't personally need either of them. ( As I cannot achieve happiness, and if I do it will cost be a lot of sadness ) I know every type of sadness there is, so I try my best so that no one else will ever have to know how that feels. RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - rosa - 01-15-2014 I have met with alot of unhappy people:huh:. If it's someone i'm use to i'll ask them about it if at the moment it seem like a good idea. If I am not familiar with the person but I have to do business with them I usually keep a smiling face and behave extra courteous with them. RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - Valentino - 01-15-2014 I'll try to cheer them up if I can, especially if they're family, but sometimes people just want to be left alone or just don't want anything to do with you at that moment. When I worked as a cashier and someone came through that didn't seem in the best of spirits I tried to be friendly/cheery regardless but if they seemed uninterested I just shut up and did my job
RE: How do you deal with unhappy people? - Not SpaceGhost - 01-15-2014 Unhappy people will never be happy until they change something inside themselves. |
