Whether you got introduced through ufotable's anime adaptation or want to re-experience the original PSP titles on original hardware, this post covers the series lore, game releases, anime details, streaming links, and a quick setup guide for your PSP Slim.

1. Series Lore & World Building

The Setting:
In the early 2050s, hostile single-celled organisms called "Oracle Cells" began rapidly consuming all organic and inorganic material on Earth. As they consumed, they merged into massive, predatory monsters known as Aragami. Conventional firearms and military equipment had zero effect on them, pushing humanity to the brink of collapse.

To fight back, the paramilitary organization Fenrir created specialized weapons called God Arcs, constructed directly from harvested Oracle Cells. Only genetically compatible warriors known as "God Eaters" can wield these weapons, which instantly morph between Blade Forms, Gun Forms, and a Devour Form used to harvest monster cores.

God Eater (2010)
  • Release Date: February 4, 2010 (Japan)
  • Platform: PlayStation Portable (PSP)
  • Developer / Publisher: Shift / Bandai Namco Entertainment
  • Overview: The original release. Set in 2071 at Fenrir's Far East Branch, you play as a custom-created "New-Type" God Eater who can switch forms on the fly. You join Unit 1 alongside core team members Lindow, Soma, Alisa, and Kota to combat local Aragami threats.

God Eater Burst (2010 - 2011)
  • Release Date: October 28, 2010 (Japan) | March 15, 2011 (North America)
  • Platform: PlayStation Portable (PSP)
  • Overview: An expanded re-release of the first game. It overhauled mechanics, added deeper weapon customization options, and included a brand-new post-game campaign surrounding the search for Lindow Amamiya and the arrival of the Hannibal Aragami.

God Eater 2 & God Eater 2: Rage Burst (2013 - 2015)
  • Release Date: November 14, 2013 (God Eater 2 - PSP/Vita) | February 19, 2015 (Rage Burst - PS4/Vita/PC)
  • Overview: Takes place three years after Burst in 2074. A deadly outbreak known as the "Black Plague" spreads via red rain. The plot follows "Blood," a specialized team of New-Types using Blood Arts. This entry added new weapon types like the Charge Spear, Boost Hammer, and Variant Scythe.

God Eater Anime Series (2015 - 2016)
  • Release Date: July 12, 2015 – March 26, 2016
  • Studio: ufotable (13 Episodes)
  • Overview: A 13-episode anime adaptation of the first game produced by ufotable. It replaces the customizable game avatar with a defined protagonist named Lenka Utsugi and focuses on the Far East Branch's battle against the Dyaus Pita.

3. Tutorial: Installing Custom Firmware (CFW) on PSP Slim

To run God Eater backups directly from your memory card on a PSP Slim (PSP-2000 or PSP-3000 model), you will need to softmod it with custom firmware.

What You Need:
  • A PSP Slim (2000 or 3000 series) with a charged battery.
  • Official Firmware updated to 6.60 or 6.61.
  • A Memory Stick Pro Duo (or MicroSD to Memory Stick Duo adapter).

CFW Setup Steps (6.61 PRO-C2):
1. Prepare File Folder: Download the 6.61 PRO-C2 firmware files onto your computer.
2. Connect PSP: Plug your PSP into your PC via USB cable.
3. Copy Files: Open your Memory Stick and copy the `PROUPDATE` and `FastRecovery` folders into `PSP/GAME/`.
4. Run the Installer: Unplug the PSP, go to Game > Memory Stick on the XMB dashboard, and run PRO Update.
5. Complete Install: Press X to install CFW. Press X again when finished to launch into the modified firmware.

Quote:Quick Tip: If your PSP battery drains completely, run FastRecovery from your Game menu once to re-enable your CFW instantly.


4. Tutorial: Adding Games to Your PSP

Once your PSP Slim is running CFW, putting game ISOs onto your card takes just a minute.

Game Installation Steps:
1. Connect your PSP Slim to your computer using USB mode.
2. Open the main root directory of your Memory Stick (the very top folder when you open the drive).
3. If you do not have an `ISO` folder there yet, create a new folder and name it `ISO` (all caps).
4. Drag your God Eater or God Eater Burst `.ISO` or `.CSO` files directly into the `ISO` folder.

5. Disconnect USB mode, go to Game > Memory Stick, select your game, and press X to play!
