Yeah, I don't even know why he would purchase it, it's not profitable or even useful, cause everyone will know by who it's owned. RE: Elon Buying CNN - Ah5858 - 12-04-2024 I don’t like big social media platforms anymore, and never liked the news on tv also Only thing good running for Elon is the space program he should focus on that (11-16-2024, 01:04 AM)dextek Wrote: Is this good or bad? RE: Elon Buying CNN - Refusal - 12-05-2024 You will always have the rich owning major corps in the United States. I believe the preservation of freedom of speech is the most important thing for democracy. Elon purchased twitter to preserve this. It has been proven that the government does intervene with social media companies to suppress information. We found this out through Zuckerberg with the Hunter Biden laptop. He once said "for Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally." X can go bankrupt, but at least it's not being controlled by the state or corporate interests. Disney tried to blackmail him with money, and he basically told them to go fuck themselves. Censorship is a very real issue and it's becoming accepted under the guise of "making people feel comfortable". Which is dangerous for everyone, regardless of your political affiliation. I'd rather see platforms allow hate speech, than become heavily censored echo chambers. The latter only serves dictators and oligarchs. Censorship very much so reminds me of the saying "you give somebody an inch and they take a mile" The moment you let the government dictate what the truth is, the truth will be whatever they want it to be. The good thing about a free economy in America is if you don't like something someone says ignore them and don't support their business. We have free speech for a reason. RE: Elon Buying CNN - sorid13378 - 12-26-2024 That will mean there will no longer be news that are the truth but all lies RE: Elon Buying CNN - Boudica - 12-26-2024 (12-12-2024, 02:50 PM)Refusal Wrote:(12-05-2024, 04:48 PM)Dismas Wrote:(12-05-2024, 02:30 PM)Refusal Wrote: You will always have the rich owning major corps in the United States. This is such a good point. At the end of the day, the thing that American's often appear to pride themselves on, is their freedom of speech. The more that's restricted, the more they become like the countries they look down their noses at. I think people believe that freedom of speech is only allowed in the hands of the "morally right", forgetting that that's not how freedom of speech works, and that an individual's interpretation of morals doesn't always mean theirs is the "correct" one. Echo chambers are such a problem in today's politics, and I think they pose a lot of danger. They create bigger divides and conflict, because people feel validated in their world view to the point that anyone different is "an idiot" or "bad person" and therefore can't be reasoned with. If people knew how to have conversations about politics like grown-ups, nobody would give a fuck that Elon bought CNN, because it wouldn't matter. |
