Making an Introduction - Kureo - 10-16-2013

What To Have In It?

An introduction thread is meant to be all about you, its a thread used to give a little information about yourself to the community of ForumFreebies. How much you are willing to give out public on this site is fully up to yourself, and no one has the rights to force information out of you that you have no interest in sharing with others. ( Personal information like phone numbers, location, age and so on. ) So this thread should only contain information you want to share public with others!

But what exactly can you say online to others? Well you can in theory say anything you would like, but its not recommended to share personal information that can be tracked back to your person. Things you can share with others could be; Age, Gender, Sexuality, Interests and so on. In short, its recommended to share information that says something about yourself, yet it tells nothing really important about yourself. I will provide a short check list for you at the bottom of this thread, so that you can see what I personally recommend to have in your thread and what I don't recommend to have.

Template!

I know that a lot of people aren't like me, and they prefer to write; Short and less informative introductions when they join sites. So in order to avoid that, I've made two small templates for you to use as you self wish. You can change whatever you want in these templates, and you are allowed to do whatever you want with them. ( Though I would be glad if you could give me the credit for it if you wish to use them on other sites. )

Would be great everyone followed this when making an introduction thread. The only pointer is, sexuality is really not required. Everything else would help. Smile

None of this is really required, its only recommended. The reason I placed sexuality in there is simply because I am curios and it may hinder some awkward situations for some members.

It could lead to being tracked down by developers to find out if you have leaked their stuff and be banned. It's hard and a long shot but those smaller plugin/theme sites can easily do it depending on the member base. Or he could have meant that the user could be identified easier.

I think gender, age, and interests would be better. Since many people can't think of their interests off top you could add a list of interests to choose from and ask for them to expand from there.

- Etc.
  • Gaming
- PC
-- Steam
-- Origin
---Types of games (FPS, MMO, etc.)
- Gaming ID (not recommended)
  • Etc.

I can understand what you mean, however.. I do not really agree with you on that as it really doesn't help out a lot for tracking down and if someone really wants to track you down, they will if they keep trying long enough. I can understand that giving out Location and Time-Zone may increase the chance of being tracked down, and its only a recommendation if you wish to tell the community about yourself so that they can get a better opinion about you. However, I don't get how General Info can increase the chance at all. I don't necessarily mean critical personal information about yourself, but rather small amount of information about yourself.
