Do you beleive zen3/am4 is a dead platform. - Frigidity4799 - 10-10-2024 Just finished up researching my new build and there was a large amount of posts stating that am4 is a dead platform and not worth investing. I agree that if it's within your budget to go for newest and shiniest, but to say that you shouldn't build your system if you can't afford the newest. For me I am doubtful I'll see a noticeable hit in performance by sticking with the top of the previous generation. RE: Do you beleive zen3/am4 is a dead platform. - Lois-butternut - 10-17-2024 AM4 has been discontinued and no new processors will be released for that socket. If you can save up a little more and go for AM5. RE: Do you beleive zen3/am4 is a dead platform. - Frigidity4799 - 10-17-2024 True there not releasing anymore, but whats available is still great. The 5800x3d is hard to come by and if you do find it it will be 2nd hand and expensive, the next best being 5700x3d which is readily available and cheap. You're right, AM5 is the way to go. Doesn't up the budget too much more than AM4. I did end up doing my build already with AM4 for the sole reason I still had some DDR4 around. RE: Do you beleive zen3/am4 is a dead platform. - langosssss - 11-28-2024 I believe so yes... but who knows RE: Do you beleive zen3/am4 is a dead platform. - Drako - 02-12-2025 Starting a completely new build on AM4 doesn't make sense anymore. AM5 processors, motherboards, and DDR5 memory can now be had at a similar cost of what AM4 components used to cost. If you already have an AM4-based build, there is still a CPU upgrade path though. |
