Superior | Tutorial | How to make a neat little shutdown button - Cosmic - 10-26-2013

So, in this guide, we'll be learning to make a shutdown shortcut on Windows 7. This is useful for a number of reasons: I, for one, have mine named "Not porn" with a folder icon, so that if a friend where to find my laptop unlocked, they'd click that and shut down for me Smile

So.

Right click, and select: New < Shortcut, which will open a window like this.

In that box, type the following:
Code:
Shutdown.exe -s -t 00

You will then be prompted to choose a name. Anything will work.

From there, on your desktop, you will see the shortcut. Right click it, and select "properties". Then, navigate to the "shortcut" tab and select "Change icon"

Then, choose one, hit apply, and you're done! Congrats Tongue

As soon as I read the title, I thought to myself "I hope he labeled the folder porn".

Haha, that's a really funny idea. I think "nudes" may also work better. A friend would definitely click on that for some dirt on you.

But thanks for the share. I don't have a use for it now, but it's good to know.

Do you happen to know what the -s, -t, and 00 do for knowledge purposes?

-t must be time and 00 must be the amount of time. Not sure though. Just google it for a straight answer. Confusedmile:

I googled it first, but couldn't get a straight answer. Figured he could do a better job.

Edit: I had an idea based on this shutdown and hidden icon thing in another tut. So you got your porn folder. When you click the icon you're prompted to put a password in, and if you get it right, you get to the porn. If you get it wrong, the computer shuts down. Therefore you hide your porn and if someone finds or gets on your computer while your gone and goes to look out of curiosity, they'd end up shutting it down and saving your ass.

This would actually be useful if I hadn't upgraded to Windows 8.1.. :3 Thanks non-the-less!

Why doesn't it work with that?

Let me test W8 real quick.

Edit: Confirmed. Works on Windows 8 as well.

That is not what I meant.. X3 Windows 8.1 removed the need for a quick shutdown, restart and sleep button menu. As they've already been added.

Oh, I misunderstood you. But still, there is some use. If you leave your comp up and someone tries to go through your shit, you can lure them into shutting it down for you. That's basically the main point for me. Since on W8, alt+f4 is quick enough to shutdown for me, without the new update you got.
