SAO was not even that bad, and it's been so much copied and changed by different anime that I think you imagination of it is different from reality

I'm not sure SAO deserves the bad rep. While I wouldn't blame someone for ditching it after the 2nd arc, there's a lot of enjoyment to be had from Mother's Rosario and later arcs. It might not live up to the original hype of the 1st arc, but it's still worth watching.

Haven't read it in the better part of a decade but I remember Pupa being fairly decent, is the anime that bad?

Personally, I din't liked SAO at all I think it's a big copy of other animes.
