Social Networks: What's Next? - Vimarra - 10-21-2023

We all know and used to social networks as a concept, but in my opinion it tends to be slowly dying in the last decade. After the "Social Networks Era" we had the "Messenger Era", but it seems to me that with all these "reactions", "comments" and stuff the messengers (channels in them, to be precise) are turning to what they had to be the opposite to: Social Networks, but in a different form.

In other words, first we had Facebook, now we have Singal and Telegram which are slowly turning into Facebook again. What'll be the next generation of all this stuff?

Social platforms are catering more towards those with smaller attention spans. Bite-sized Tiktok/Instagram reels have their place, but there will always be platforms for actual discussion.

With excessive corporate controls and datamining, less centralized platforms will still have value (i.e. forums/Telegram). There's also a big difference between discussion on forums versus Discord.

I agree. The tighter the grip of corporate control, the more people will run from it.
Corporate and governments taking up resposabilities which should be for the individual, is bad for humanity.

According to research, our attention span has markedly decreased in just 15 years; the average attention span in 2000 was 12 seconds, compared to 8.25 seconds in 2015.
