Skype or IRC? - Dismas - 11-03-2013 I've become increasingly, increasingly, fed up with Skype. The chat is laggy, it's developed by Microsoft, and it is not designed for the purposes we use it for. IRCs, however, are designed for large groups, and require a very small amount of resources to run. Personally, I'd like to switch to IRC again, and this time stick with it. Skype isn't a secure means of discussing a lot of the things that the forum does. While Skype has always been an excellent medium of communication, there are better out there that I'd encourage people to use - namely XMPP or IRC. I was wondering if anybody else was interested in making the transition to IRC or if they had any concerns. The previous issue we had with using an IRC, is that very few people were active on it, and we ended up reverting back to Skype less than a month later. Would you guys like to make the switch? RE: Skype or IRC? - Feat - 11-03-2013 I've never actually bothered using IRC's. I used the FK IRC once and thats about it. I would have to agree with you though. RE: Skype or IRC? - BlueScreen - 11-03-2013 I use IRC already for mutliple other forums and just general chatting, but I don't see a community like SL being able to move over to IRC. RE: Skype or IRC? - DarkFluxâ„¢ - 11-03-2013 IRC is Secure . i love IRC forevever . RE: Skype or IRC? - Eclipse - 11-03-2013 Yes, I could work with the Sinisterly chat being IRC. Just install chatzilla and I'm good to go. RE: Skype or IRC? - Care - 11-03-2013 IRCs are more efficient than Skype. It's a hassle to add people to the Skype chat. RE: Skype or IRC? - Queens - 11-03-2013 I enjoy Skype, but people misuse it a lot. IRC is too "boring" for me, but I guess I haven't experienced it to the extent to actually speak out like this, lol RE: Skype or IRC? - lux - 11-03-2013 As long as you made it simple and easy for people to use, it'll work well. So try to get someone different going, not the old grey on black, beveled, 1990's looking IRC I'm familiar with. |
