Do you believe the world would be better off without religion, as in if we abanoned all religion right this moment? What are your thoughts?[/u]

Short answer, yes. But I think something else would replace it.

People would lose sight of a goal and the world would end up in chaos. I think it's good people believe in something and restrict themselves.

How does religion have anything to do with 'losing sight of a goal'?

For example, Christians aim to live their life as wrote correctly in the bible to gain access to heaven. Hence reaching heaven would be their goal.

No . because , the holy books of the Specific religion say " Do good and donate to reach the heaven " So the people would be good . Smile

For some religion is a point of living. Knowing there is something better to come at the end of life and gives meaning to ones life. Although I don't believe in any form of religion, knowing there is something greater and larger than all aspects of mankind (God) is too fantastical to believe.

It depends in which way you look at religion. For some, it brings out the best in humans and for others they misinterpret what their religion teaches them and turns them into extremists. I guess you couldn't really answer the question in full unless religion wasn't actually around. I believe religion was the way of law and authority back in history (10 commandments etc)

I agree with this. I think personal religious practice can be a great thing, but a mass religious structure seems to mostly be used for the purposes of control, so if you were to get rid of that some other form of abuse of power would rise up. I personally consider myself to be more spiritual than religious.

Religion only started got corrupted because people mixed it up with Politics, which then in returned gave people Power which then again corrupted/brought out the corruption amongst the highly respected religious leaders. The problem here isn't religion, it's about power and how people can accept it by using a ruse like religion.

Even if religion were gone, it wouldn't change anything. People would just find something new to manipulate people with.

You do realise all the wars that have been started because of religion and how much slower evolution has become because religious people have desided that they want to fight for their religion instead of sitting at home and finding out what will happen when you mix milk and chocolate powder?
Sure religion is used to manipulate people into voting on one person, and that would probably still happen, but we would be way more developed without it and I would stop having to be forced to church every-time a friend or a family member decides they want to get married or have a kid.
