Pick up an interest in something and stay in it. If you're interested in web exploitation then pick up PHP and other languages used on websites.
If you're not into websites then learn networking, learn the 7 OSI layers(Physical, Data, Network, Transportation, Session, Presentation and Application Layers) learn about TCP/IP protocol, UDP/TCP etc etc.
Then you can do programming as well!
