Twitter’s ditching of free text-message authentication doesn’t mean that you should forgo using 2FA. Instead, switch to another and, indeed, better – 2FA option just as Google Authenticator, Authy, LastPass Authenticator, Duo Mobile, and 1Password.

Due to SIM-swapping attacks, SMS-based 2FA has always been flawed. App-based 2FA has its own challenges, so it's hard to say what's best.
