Most Common Roles:
  • Bruiser
    • The Bruiser (usually goes top) is a character that becomes semi-tanky or very tanky. Should be able to take quite a bit of damage before dying as he, as the bruiser is generally one of the characters that initiates a fight. Also usually has at least some cc, that way they can keep the AD/AP carry busy.
    • Examples: Singed, Riven, Cho'Gath
  • AP Carry
    • The AP Carry (usually goes mid) is a character that generally has a lot of burst. They can take out one specific champion very quickly, but after that, they have to wait a while for their cooldowns to come back up before being able to do anymore considerable damage. They are very squishy.
    • Examples: Leblanc, Veigar, Diana
  • AD Carry
    • The AD Carry (usually goes bot with support) is a character with a high amount of sustained damage. They can't burst as fast as an AP Carry, but can keep doing damage over a long period of time. Also very squishy and usually targeted first.
    • Examples: Vayne, Ezreal, Corki
  • Support
    • The Support (usually goes bot with AD Carry) is a character that has a large array of jobs. For the first part of the game, their main job is to ward the river (To be aware of incoming ganks), heal the AD Carry (if possible), use CC to help get the AD Carry kills, and protect the AD Carry. Once teamfights come they're main job is to protect the AD Carry and for certain supports, they'll initiate (Leona, Alistar, Sona, etc).
    • Examples: Sona, Taric, Leona
  • Jungler
    • The Jungler (goes to the jungle) is a character that also has various jobs. Their main job is to get their gold/xp from the jungle camps so that there can be a second solo lane which will be able to gain more gold and more xp since they're by themself. They're second job is to gank the lanes and try to kill the enemy, that way the lanes will have an advantage against their opponent. Late game, they should be fairly tanky and help to initiate on the enemy.
    • Examples: Skarner, Lee Sin, Udyr
